EPR Registration
Plastic packaging, e-waste, batteries, tyres. If a business makes, imports, or sells products that turn into any of these once thrown away, EPR Registration isn't optional. It's a legal requirement under India's environmental rules. The Central Pollution Control Board enforces it. Aldo Compliance provides end-to-end EPR consultancy — covering Plastic EPR, E-Waste EPR, Battery EPR, Tyre EPR, and related categories — so businesses understand exactly what they owe and stay compliant without missing deadlines.
What EPR Registration Actually Means
EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility. The idea is simple. Whoever puts a product into the market is also responsible for what happens to it after it's thrown away. EPR Registration is how CPCB tracks that responsibility. Producers, importers, and brand owners, known together as PIBOs, must register on the CPCB EPR portal before selling regulated products in India. That registration is what's often called EPR certification, and it needs to be in place before sale, not after.
Responsibility beyond the sale.

Who Needs to Register
Registration applies across four main waste streams. Each has its own rules.
Plastic EPR
Covers rigid, flexible, multilayer, and compostable plastic packaging. Applies to producers, importers, and brand owners selling plastic-packaged goods.
E-Waste EPR
Covers electronic and electrical equipment, from laptops to lithium-ion battery-powered devices.
Battery EPR
Covers lead-acid, lithium-ion, and nickel-cadmium batteries under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
Tyre EPR
Covers tyre manufacturers, retreaders, and importers. Collection and recycling proof for end-of-life tyres is required.
Why EPR Compliance Can't Be Skipped
Operating without valid registration isn't a small paperwork gap. It's treated as a violation under environmental law. CPCB has been actively cross-checking certificates and publicly listing defaulters. Penalties can include environmental compensation that grows with unmet targets, plus the reputational hit that comes with getting flagged.

EPR Registration FAQs
Is EPR Registration mandatory for small businesses too?
Small businesses get an exemption only under plastic EPR, based on turnover and investment limits. Other categories, like battery or e-waste EPR, apply regardless of size.
How long does EPR Registration take?
Timelines vary by category and how complete the documentation is. Most registrations clear CPCB review within a few weeks once everything is submitted correctly.
What happens if a business skips EPR compliance?
It counts as a violation under environmental law. CPCB can impose environmental compensation along with other regulatory actions.
